A cellar book — a ledger with columns for wine bought and consumed — helps keep track of the constant flow of wine. In practice, with many single bottles or small lots wine, it is hard to keep a cellar book up to date. Use one for logging wine bought by the case, and/or for long-term storage. A system for labelling racks and bins is even more useful. Individual labels or wipe-clean tags can identify bottles, or racks can be labelled with a grid syem so that bottles can be pinpointed in a ledger. If wine is kept in wooden cases, ensure that the case end, with the wine name and vintage, is visible. |
