This highly ambitious company was founded in 1986 by several of the major shareholders of Concha y Toro (qv) in partnership with Banfi Vintners. Today its vineyards cover 800ha (1,975 acres) over several sites, including 400ha (900 acres) in Colchagua and 100ha (250 acres) in Casablanca. Based in Maipo, Walnut Crest produces about one million cases a year, which include sparkling wines made by the Charmat process. Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon emphasize fresh fruit flavours and stand out in a list that also includes Sauvignon Blanc. |
