In 1976 well-known winemaker Emilio de Solminihac and his wife, Monica, refurbished a large winery in Rancagua. At the same time as making wines for other companies, they developed the Santa Monica estate vineyard, which now extends to 93ha (230 acres). Santa Monica produces export wines only, which is as yet a rare situation in Chile. The export list consists of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon and Riesling. Production averages 30,000 cases a year.
