Vineyards of 1,500ha (3,700 acres) adjoin those of Vaud, north of the lake. About half the production is of white wine from the Chasselas grape (known locally as Perlan), which here takes its light, elegant character from the mineral-rich clay and limestone soil. White wines are also made from the Burgundy varieties, Aligoto and Chardonnay, and light reds from the Gamay of Beaujolais.
