Worcester District WO This district has around 20 highly efficient cooperatives making 25% of the country's wine, including some good whites from Riesling (Weisser Riesling), Sauvignon Blanc and Colombard, and dessert wines from white and red Muscadel. It is also South Africa's most important brandy?producing area. Worcester covers many of the Breede River's tributaries, each of which has a markedly different microclimate. The Nuy co?op is a good producer.
Robertson District WO This district's lime?rich soils are particularly suited to growing grapes, and 10% of South Africa's vineyard is here. With mountains on its northern and southern borders and a hot, and climate, viticulture became possible only when a large dam was constructed at the beginning of the century. Today Robertson's estates and co?ops are the source of some of the Cape's most esteemed Chardonnay and Shiraz wines, as well as sparkling wines and traditional fortified dessert wines.
Top producers include Graham Beck (sparkling wines), Bon Courage, De Wetshof (supreme Chardonnays), Rietvallei, Rooiberg cooperative, Van Louveren Weltevrede.
Swellendarn District WO A bulk wine producing area with various co ops. Currently ordinary but improving.
