Like everything else in Romania, the wine industry is in a state of transition. Land is being returned to its former owners as the enormous state farms are dismantled and the cooperative system abandoned, However, farm and cooperative wineries remain, for at present they alone have the capacity to vinify the grapes and bottle the wine. Cellar facilities vary considerably, but some have benefited from investment in new equipment and technology. The problems are all too apparent but the potential to make good wine is undoubtedly there.
