Northern Greece, consisting of Macedonia and Thrace, specializes in red wines. The Xynomavro grape dominates the areas of Naoussa, Amindeo and Goumenissa. The wines are aged in wood, but Amindeo also produces a sparkling rose wine.
The other appellation area is Cotes de Meliton in Sithonia, where a mixture of grapes is grown, producing white wines from Rhoditis, Assyrtiko and Athiri, blended with Sauvignon Blanc and Ugni Blanc; and red wines from Limnio and Cabernet Sauvignon.
