Tafelwein ("table wine") is the lowest level. An important adjunct is the prefix Deutscher or German, which means the wine is actually grown in Germany. Unqualified, Tafelwein can mean wine from elsewhere in the EC bottled by a firm in Germany. Some modern wines of high quality are sold as Tafelwein because their producers do not submit them for official testing.
