Carafes

Young wines sometimes gain from decanting, too, and for them a jug or stopperless carafe is the best vessel. A more rustic appearance can work well, too; perhaps even using glass with a slight texture or colour, which would be inappropriate for fine wine. Use a litre carafe or jug for a standard bottle of wine, to allow the wine to be poured in vigorously.

Carafes or jugs can also be used when drinking wine from a large container, such as a "wine cask" or "bag-in-box", to keep a check on how much is being drunk.
