Collecting Strategies

The wine collector, unlike the investor, will not restrict the cellar to the "blue chip" wines which are certain to command an easy auction sale. As noted above, many strategies can be adopted, the common feature of all being some kind of logic. The collector will seek out faultless examples, and when wines cannot be bought en primeur they will be sourced from impeccable cellars where storage conditions are known. In turn, the collector hopes that when the time comes to drink, or perhaps to sell, the wine, its provenance — the collector's cellar — will add lustre to its reputation.
