Producers

Producers may be identified on the label, or the wine may carry only the name of the region or district. Most legal systems insist that the bottler be named: this allows faulty or fraudulent wine to be traced. The bolder may not be the maker: the concern bottling the wine may be a merchant firm which buys wine from many sources. If the wine is bottled by its maker, the label usually says so. The term "chateau" implies producer-bottling, and French law is being tightened to insist on this. Producer-bottling is not the only way to find a wine from a single producer, though: some merchants handle the bottling for wine-makers. More often, however, a merchant will blend wines from several sources
