Founded in 1875 in the Maipo Valley, Santa Carolina was among the first to modernize its facilities and develop vineyards in the Casablanca area. The company makes wines at three locations: Santiago (the original cellars), Rapel and Curic6. It currently owns or leases 1,200 ha (3,000 acres) and, guided by winemaker Pillar Gonzales, enjoys a good reputation for Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon, The Special Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc rank among the finest of Chile's wines. Production of Chardonnay is expected to increase when the Casablanca vineyards reach full maturity.
