Neil McCallum has diverted this small 4.5-ha (11-acre) vineyard away from mainstream Wairarapa styles. Although he makes Pinot Noir, he devotes more time to aromatic white varieties such as Riesling, Gewürztraminer and Pinot Gris. He is particularly successful with Gewürztraminer in a dry style, and Pinot Gris, from which he extracts all the dry peppery flavours a white wine like this would exhibit in Alsace.
