Many of the best wine estates are members of the Verband Deutscher Pradikatsweinguter (VDP), an association of QmP-producing estates. The spread-eagle emblem on the capsule of VDP members' bottles is a good indicator of fine quality wine, although there are still a number of good producers outside the association. For the Charta group, which is specific to the Rheingau.

The Deutsche Landwirtschaft GeselIschaft (DLG), or German agricultural society, offers gold, silver and bronze awards to wines judged by local panels. These awards are displayed on a small circular label or a strip on the bottle. The DLG also awards Weinsiegel (seals): yellow indicates Trocken, green for Halbtrocken and red for other wines.
